Our Mission | To Engineer Future Innovators

At fernTECH our aim is to qualify and prepare young people for work in local industry. This September we launched Dorset’s first Digital T-Levels in brand new facilities at our Computing and Robotics Centre.

In the first instance we are offering T Level routes in Software Development and Digital Support and want to work with more local industry partners to shape our offer to give the Dorset digital sector a future pipeline of talent.

What we offer | Helping Dorset's digital sector

Excellent Teaching | All our digital technology teachers are full-qualified and provide high-quality lessons in purpose built spaces. Our department even won a Pearson National Teaching Award for Digital Innovator of the Year in 2021.

Support and Dialogue | We genuinely want to get a feel for what our local digital sector wants in terms of young people's skills and competencies. We are willing to adapt our curriculum to suit local need of what businesses demand where achievable.

Excellent Facilities | As of Autumn 2022, we will have extensive facilities including a new purpose built digital education block. We ensure our students are competent on a range of operating systems and if on the Developer route, students will be taught a big suite of languages including C#, Python and Javascript. Our seminar suite will cater for business talks and events to support our students learning.

Placement Framework | T-Levels are new to the area and we are working alongside Dorset Council to set up a placement framework to support local businesses with hosting their placements. This includes how to conduct assessment and how best to weave it into normal business where applicable. We will also provide safeguarding training

What are we looking for? |

We want to immerse our students in the world of the digital sector to help them grow and prepare them for the workplace.

We would like to grow our list of local businesses who can:

  • Provide virtual or in-person talks (in our new seminar suite)

  • Provide taster days or business/site tours

  • Provide work placement opportunities for software developer and digital support students from September 2023

Want to be part of our mission? |

We're keen to get as many local businesses as possible to become fernTECH partners and take young people's experiences to the next level. If you have any questions or would like to become a fernTECH partner in anyway please click below to email us.
